Crypto tax

We prepare tax returns for people who buy, sell, swap or hold crypto, and help you keep the records the ATO expects.

It is for investors, including trade business owners who hold crypto on the side.

How the ATO treats crypto

The ATO says that when you hold crypto as an investment, it is a capital gains tax (CGT) asset. When you dispose of it, a CGT event happens. That includes selling it, swapping it for another crypto, or exchanging it for money or goods. You may make a capital gain or a capital loss.

The records you need

  • The date of each transaction.
  • The value in Australian dollars at the time.
  • What the transaction was for, and who the other party was (a wallet address is enough).
  • Exchange records, wallet records and any fees you paid.

How we help

  • Work out each capital gain or loss from your records.
  • Bring crypto into the rest of your tax return.
  • Show you what to keep next year, so the next return is simpler.
